What is the Parkside Plaza Meal Program?- The River East Council for Seniors is offering a hot noon meal three days a week for seniors 55+ living in the community. The Meal Program provides the opportunity for individuals to have a delicious lunch at a reasonable price and to meet other seniors living in the area. Meals are served to you by volunteers. Meals are available Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 12:00 noon except for holidays.
Where is the Program Located?- Parkside Plaza Social Room, 1630 Henderson Hwy. just north of the Chief Peguis Trail on the river side of Henderson Hwy. Parking is available in the visitor parking area.
Who can use this Service?- Individuals 55+ living in the North Kildonan, East Kildonan and Elmwood area.
- Family guests and friends are welcome.
How do I make arrangements to come to a meal?
- Preregistration is necessary. Meals are prepared for the number of individuals expected.
- Phone 339-4428 . There may be an answering machine to take your call. This machine is checked Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for messages.
- Leave your name, phone number, and the date you would like to come for a meal. If there is more than one person coming, include the number that will be coming.
- Deadlines for registering are as follows:
- 1:00 p.m. Friday for the Tuesday meal.
- 1:00 p.m. Tuesday for the Thursday meal.
- 1:00 p.m. Thursday for the Friday meal.
What does the meal cost?
- Meals are $6.00. This includes coffee or tea. Participants are asked to bring correct change if possible. Payment is made to the Cashier before the meal.
What type of meal is available?- There is a set menu for the month. Each month is different. A copy of the menu for the month is available from the Meal Program.
What is the role of Volunteers?
- The program could not function without the help of volunteers. Volunteers help with meal preparation, collecting cash, record keeping, setting the table, serving and clearing dishes, and cleanup in the kitchen. Many of the volunteers are seniors from the adjoining apartment blocks and surrounding community.
